To ensure your baskets stays in good shape, here are a few care tips.
Partially shady areas for your baskets are often the best position, exposed areas with full sun and wind allows the basket to dry out very quickly and wilt.
Water your basket daily, even if it rains. The rain never penetrates the baskets enough to water sufficiently. As plants grow the basket will require more water. Check the moisture content of your basket by checking the weight, the lighter the basket the more water it will require.
If your basket dries out and everything wilts, put it in a large container of water in the shade. Leave it overnight to revive and only hang it up again once the plants have recovered.
During the summer months try watering during the evening or when the basket is in the shade as less evaporation will take place. Always remember in hot weather you may need to water 2-3 times a day.
A slow release fertiliser has already been added to your basket but using a liquid feed once a week will help your basket continue to look good. Ideally use a potassium rich fertiliser such as tomato feed to encourage more flowers.
Deadheading is very important, its best to ensure this is done daily. This will encourage the plant to produce more flowers.
Simply take off the old flower heads and any seeds heads from the stem (not just removing the petals). Also remove old and discoloured foliage, this will help reduce pests and disease and help improve growth.
